Why more older workers are finding themselves unemployed as retirement approaches
(I believe I wrote this email to my nephew Alex. As I look back on my career, I think when I was in my 50's I worried the most. Not a decade to screw around. A good time to grab things to do and add value where you can.)
I watched this video and my first thought was - this is the weight Grandpa and I carried. The dread that even when you think you're doing the right things you could find yourself starting over.

I know I've told you many times about saving money. The truth is that most people can never save enough for situations like this. So as I write this note I ponder what the other strategies might be.
It seems much more difficult today to stay employed in one company for an entire career. Even Grandpa had an early issue when he was laid off from Ingersoll Rand while Grandma was pregnant with me. It seems inevitable that life is going to throw curve balls, so the strategy should include ways to deal with them.
