Retirement: My status and a few videos
I started 2024 with, "I'm retiring sometime this year." I first settled on July 1st, since it was my work anniversary and my mother's birthday. I figured I could be with my mother for her birthday - something that has rarely happened. Then I realized some of my compensation would vest in early August, so I shifted my mental retirement date to the end of August. This would mean I'd be on Corning retiree health-care insurance for one month before moving to Medicare in October. This seemed complicated, so I opted to retire the end of September. For me, there wasn't an obvious retirement date to select. The following video might give you some other things to think about when selecting a date.

At 90 days before my retirement date, I had to use the Corning website to start the process. I was (electronically) sent my retirement paperwork, which I printed, placed in a manila folder, and set on my kitchen table. For a couple of days it was a bit of a stare down between me and the document every time I walked past it. Commitment was a little harder than I thought it would be.
I found the next two videos interesting. Forecasting your retirement spending is like forecasting the fiber business. "I don't know."

There are a few people on this list who are too young to retire, but may be thinking about it. I thought this video explained some of the retirement savings psychology pretty well.
