Retirement: Information for people soon to be on Medicare about Part D drug coverage
Nina B. shared this important information about signing up for Medicare. Passing it on.
"Just thought I would share something that I learned this morning while trying to sign up for my Medicare supplement program. I had planned on not signing up for part D drug coverage because the plans offered on that UHC site started with a minimum premium of almost $60 a month and I don't take many drugs. There's a penalty, if you don't sign up for part D and then later on decide you want to have part D. But the penalty did not seem as onerous as pay monthly premiums when I don't have medication. But when I was talking to the UHC advisor, she let me know that I did not need to sign up for part D through UHC to take advantage of our RRA. She recommended I go to medicare.gov to sign up for part D because there were plans with zero premiums. If I had not been having the conversation with her, I would not have known that."
